Project Manager Resume Builder
Project management resumes are screened for hard numbers before anything else: budget size, team size, timeline, and whether you delivered on it. A resume that describes coordination without scale is very hard to shortlist against one that says "delivered a £3.2M migration across 4 sites, 11 weeks ahead of schedule".
This builder puts methodology and tooling where an ATS keyword search reaches them, and leaves the room you need for quantified delivery bullets.

Who is this Project Manager resume guide for, and what do you need?
It is for anyone applying for Project Manager roles — a first application, a step up, or a resume written for another market that now has to answer what project manager screens check. It is a builder plus a written guide, not a job board, and it cannot tell you whether a particular employer will reply.
- What you need
- Your own record of employers, dates and results, plus evidence for the skills these roles are screened on: Agile, Scrum, PRINCE2, PMP. There is nothing to upload and no account to create.
- How to use this page
- Step 1: read what the first screen checks. Step 2: build the resume from an ATS template. Step 3: compare the result with the advert before you apply.
- What makes it different
- It starts from the first screen a project manager application meets — budget and team scale you have actually been accountable for — rather than from a generic resume outline.
- What it cannot do
- It cannot supply the figures behind your work, and it cannot know which project manager keywords an individual employer searches for — the advert is the only reliable list.

What Project Manager hiring managers screen for first
Every field filters differently. Knowing what is being checked in the first thirty seconds tells you what belongs near the top of the page — and what can safely sit at the bottom.
- Budget and team scale you have actually been accountable for.
- Methodology fit — the ad usually names waterfall, agile or PRINCE2 explicitly.
- Delivery record: on time, on budget, and what you did when it was not.
- Stakeholder seniority — who did you report status to?
Section order
The resume structure that works for a Project Manager
Section order is not a style choice. It decides which information a recruiter meets first, and for this role the answer is specific.
Certifications
Unusually, put this high for project management — PMP and PRINCE2 are frequently hard filters.
Skills
Methodologies, then governance and reporting, then tools.
Experience
Budget, team size, timeline and outcome in every role. These four numbers do most of the screening work.
Education
One line at the bottom.
Keyword targeting
Skills and keywords for a Project Manager resume
An applicant tracking system searches for literal noun phrases, so the vocabulary on your resume has to match the vocabulary in the job ad. Write the tool name, not a description of the tool.
Hard skills worth listing
- Agile
- Scrum
- PRINCE2
- PMP
- MS Project
- Jira
- Confluence
- Risk management
- Budget management
- Vendor management
- Stakeholder management
- Change management
Only list what you can use unaided. Every item here is something an interviewer may reasonably test.
Phrases an ATS keyword search matches on
- project delivery
- project plan
- milestone tracking
- resource planning
- RAID log
- governance
- benefits realisation
- scope management
- status reporting
- workstream
These are the phrases recruiters type into an ATS search box. If your resume says “container orchestration” and the search is for the platform name, you will not appear in the results.

Professional summary
Project manager with 8 years delivering infrastructure and systems change in regulated environments. Ran a £3.2M data-centre migration across four sites with a 22-person team, landing 11 weeks early and 4% under budget.
Notice what is missing: no “hardworking team player”, no list of soft skills. Years, scope, one specific result. The AI summary writer in the resume summary generator builds this shape from your own details.
Achievement bullet points
- Delivered a £3.2M data-centre migration across 4 sites with a 22-person team, 11 weeks ahead of schedule and 4% under budget.
- Recovered a red-rated CRM implementation by re-baselining scope, returning it to green within 6 weeks and avoiding a 3-month slip.
- Introduced a standard RAID and reporting cadence across 9 concurrent projects, cutting escalations to the steering group by two thirds.
Each bullet follows the same pattern: action, method, measurable result. Replace the figures with your own — never with numbers you cannot defend at interview. The bullet point generator rewrites your existing duties into this form.
Layout
Templates that suit a Project Manager resume
These all use a single reading column, standard section headings and real selectable text — the three properties that decide whether an applicant tracking system can parse the document at all.
Applicant tracking systems
Why ATS formatting matters for this role
An applicant tracking system does not rank resumes out of 100. It parses your document into fields — job titles, dates, employers, skills — and lets a recruiter search those fields. Anything it cannot parse effectively does not exist, which is why formatting is a functional requirement rather than an aesthetic one.
| Parses reliably | Frequently fails |
|---|---|
| Single reading column | Two-column layouts and sidebars |
| Standard headings: Experience, Education, Skills | Creative headings like "My Journey" |
| Real text, selectable and searchable | Text inside images or graphics |
| Simple bullet characters | Custom icon fonts and symbol glyphs |
| MM/YYYY date format | Ambiguous or missing dates |

Common questions
Project Manager resume FAQ
Is PMP or PRINCE2 worth putting on my resume?
Yes, prominently, and near the top. Many project management roles use certification as a hard filter before a human reads the document, and an ATS keyword search will look for the exact acronym. List the certification and the year you obtained it.
How do I describe a project that failed or was cancelled?
Describe what you controlled and what you learned, in one line, without editorialising. "Programme cancelled at stage 2 following a funding review; retained to lead the wind-down and benefits capture" is honest and reads as senior.
Should I list every project I have run?
No. Three to five substantial projects with full context beat fifteen one-line entries. Name the projects that are closest in scale and sector to the role you are applying for.
Agile or waterfall — which should I lead with?
Whichever the job ad names. Most organisations run a hybrid, and describing yourself as "waterfall and agile, matched to the delivery context" is both accurate and what experienced hiring managers expect.

About this page
This Project Manager resume guide is written and maintained by the people who build the tools it describes, and it is reviewed whenever the product changes.
No external reviewer has approved this page. It carries no named expert, no certification and no reviewer credentials, because the site does not hold any. There is also no sponsored content and no paid placement in a list or comparison.
Because the tools need no account, the site has no ratings, testimonials or user counts to publish. Everything here is either a statement about how the software behaves, which you can test, or a convention you can check with the employer.
